Bad cough.. try lime juice with rock sugar..
I was having fever last week and a non stop coughing..with a so maidless at home, kids start schooling and work..ooh just tell me about it, with some strength left.., I still have to manage all these ( i do not have a choice either ).
It is just me whenever I fell sick, I would try all the natural remedies on me...My fever is getting better but my cough seems very hard to get rid off.. finally, when my husband bought some limes and with my available stock of rock sugar, I decided to try this combination..
Very easy and handy, boil some rock sugar and I add pandan leaves ( I just love the smell ) and just add the boiled concentrated rock sugar to some squeezed lime ( about 8 ~ 10 limes ) and a right amount of water to dilute them. This would make a teapot of lime juice and take it warm. It was amazing, my cough reduced a lot, I can sleep better and it seems that I almost forgot about my coughing on the next day..

Be gentle to your skin..
Lots of skin and body care are mushrooming the market recently ..we may choose them from the shelves of the hypermarket or to the high end products at their own exclusive counter. I love trying all sort of products..with the appealing packaging and labels or having the latest technology and many more.. finally, I feel the most important thing is being healthy..it's okay to look as what our age are...and of course age grows but as long you're healthy and happy, the glow would shine from within ( being a late thirties mom, what's more do you expect ya..).
I always believe that we should be always gentle to our skin in order to have a healthy skin, take a look at the ingredients of our basic body and skin care and get to know them. These are the lists of cosmetic ingredients that we should try to avoid. I find them most useful list from my readings taken from Aubrey Hampton of Aubrey Organics:
1. Methyl, Propyl, Butyl and Ethyl Paraben – Used as inhibitors of microbial growth and to extend shelf life of products. Have caused many allergic reactions and skin rashes. Studies have shown that they are weakly estrogenic and can be absorbed by the body through the skin. Widely used even though they are known to be toxic.
2. Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethanolamine (TEA) – Often used in cosmetics as emulsifiers and/or foaming agents. They can cause allergic reactions, eye irritation and dryness of hair and skin. DEA and TEA are “amines” (ammonia compounds) and can form cancer-causing nitrosamines when they come in contact with nitrates. Toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time.
3. Diazolidinyl Urea, Imidazolidinyl Urea – These are widely used preservatives. The American Academy of Dermatology has found them to be a primary cause of contact dermatitis. Two trade names for these chemicals are Germall II and Germall 115. Neither of the Germall chemicals contains a good antifungal agent, and they must be combined with other preservatives. Both these chemicals release formaldehyde, which can be toxic.
4. Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS) – A cheap, harsh detergent used in shampoos for its cleansing and foam-building properties. Often derived from petroleum, it is frequently disguised in pseudo-natural cosmetics with the phrase “comes/derived from coconuts.” It causes eye irritation, scalp scurf similar to dandruff, skin rashes and other allergic reactions.
5. Petrolatum - Also known as petroleum jelly, this mineral oil derivative is used for its emollient properties in cosmetics. It has no nutrient value for the skin and can interfere with the body’s own natural moisturizing mechanism, leading to dryness and chapping. It often creates the very conditions it claims to alleviate. Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap.
6. Propylene Glycol – Ideally this is a vegetable glycerin mixed with grain alcohol, both of which are natural. Usually it is a synthetic petrochemical mix used as a humectant. It has been known to cause allergic reactions, hives and eczema. When you see PEG (polyethylene glycol) or PPG (polypropylene glycol) on labels, beware – these are related synthetics.
7. PVP/VA Copolymer – A petroleum-derived chemical used in hairsprays, styling aids and other cosmetics. It can be considered toxic, since inhaled particles can damage the lungs of sensitive persons.
8. Stearalkonium Chloride – A quaternary ammonium compound used in hair conditioners and creams. Developed by the fabric industry as a fabric softener, it is a lot cheaper and easier to use in hair conditioning formulas than proteins or herbals, which are beneficial to the hair. Causes allergic reactions. Toxic.
9. Synthetic Colors – Used to make cosmetics “pretty,” synthetic colors, along with synthetic hair dyes, should be avoided at all costs. They will be labeled as FD&C or D&C, followed by a color and a number. Example: FD&C Red No. 6 / D&C Green No. 6. Many synthetic colors can be carcinogenic. If a cosmetic contains them, don’t use it.
10. Synthetic Fragrances – The synthetic fragrances used in cosmetics can have as many as 200 ingredients. There is no way to know what the chemicals are, since on the label it will simply read “fragrance.” Some problems caused by these chemicals include headaches, dizziness, rash, hyperpigmentation, violent coughing, vomiting, skin irritation—the list goes on. Advice: Don’t buy a cosmetic that has the word “fragrance” on the ingredients label.
Knowing these are actually popular ingredients in most body/skin care products, I decided to have one gentle and natural product ..gentle enough to use on baby skin. A handmade glycerin facial bar enriched with Virgin Coconut Oil and hibiscus, scented with only Essential Oil. Truly natural, no colorant and handmade..I've been using for over a year and my girls enjoy them on the skin...The lather is very soft.. soothing and relaxing with the scent of mint and lavender essential oil..
Hibiscus Facial Soap is created to deliver the perfecting properties of hibiscus. It naturally contains powerful antioxidant and Vitamin C that is needed for a healthy skin. The richness of our ingredients will leave a natural emollient after use that leaves your skin soft.
Ingredient: Aqua, palm oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Hibiscus, glycerin, sucrose, sodium chloride, lactic acid, Mint or lavender essential oil.
Hibiscus Facial Soap comes in two types, Lavender and Mint.
If you like the cooling sensation that can ignite you in the morning, pick our Mint Hibiscus Facial soap.
And if you enjoy the calming and relaxing sensation of Lavender, try our Lavender Hibiscus Facial Soap.

Here are some good tips to keep us fit and lean: ( http://www.healthcastle.com )
Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day
Fruits and vegetables are packed with beneficial fibers, vitamins and antioxidants. They fill up your stomach fast so you feel full earlier. They are also low in calories and helps to keep your calorie count low.
Watch for Portion Size
One serving of pasta means 1/2 cup of cooked pasta. However, most restaurants serve a pasta dish with 4 servings of pasta!!! You do not need to finish and clean off the plate every time. You can simply ask to take home the leftover. ( in our case..we might want to watch out our nasi lemak or roti canai portion ya!)
Do not Skip Meals
Eating small frequent meals help to balance your calorie intake throughout the day and also keeps your blood sugar level balanced. Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 - 6 smaller meals throughout the day.
Go for wholesome fresh foods
If possible, purchase fresh foods and avoid package (processed) and convenient foods such as fast food. Packaged and convenient foods are often higher in sodium and fat content. Many people we spoke to are amazed that they can easily lose weight by packing a home-cooked lunch to work instead of eating out.
Don't be overly-restrictive
Everyone has his or her favorite treats. Simply allow yourself a little indulgence, but watch out for the frequency and the quantity. Having a small treat once in a while can be rewarding to your weight loss experience. Cutting too much of your favorite treats usually lead to an early relapse.
Understand Food Claims and Labels
A product labelled with a fat-free claim does not mean that it is low in calories. Similarly a product labelled as low-sugar or low-carb does not mean it is low in fat or calories. Always read the nutrition label on the packaging.
Watch for the sugary drinks
Juices, soda, cream & sugar in your coffee or tea all add up. Opt for drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. In addition to providing hydration to your body, it will also help you feel full.
Keep a food journal
Keeping a food journal helps you pin point your eating pattern and will enable you to easily modify it. If possible, have your Registered Dietitian review your journal.
Exercise, period
Most authorities recommend 30 - 60 minutes of physical activity a day to stay healthy. Also try adding weight-bearing exercises at least 2 times a week. This will help burn some of the unwanted calories.Sunday, November 14, 2010
Cracked heel and super dry skin...try our VCO hand made soap..
Try our natural handmade soap , enriched with Virgin Coconut Oil to smoothen your super dry skin or cracked heel . Simply make a lather from the soap and apply direct to the skin or heel and leave them for a while. You can do it while you're taking your shower. With a continuous application, you may feel your skin moist and smoother and the cracked and flaky heel starts diminishing.
ONLY RM9.90 per bar of 50g. We use only plant base and no harsh chemical. Comes in 3 "flavors":
Hibiscus
Pandan
Coffee
Besides that, take a good care of our feet by taking sufficient minerals such as iron, calcium , zinc and Vitamin E. Try to minimize walking in bare feet ( but sometimes being a mom, too busy to even think about it!) and keep them clean :)
